Rheological measurements on self-compacting fibre reinforced concrete
Steel fibres are added to cement-based matrices in order to improve the characteristics in both the hardening and the hardened stare. However, steel fibres are also known to affect the characteristics of concrete in the fresh state. This article summarises the results of an experimental parameter study, which was based on four reference self-compacting mixtures and was carried out in order to optimise the mixture composition in the presence of steel fibres and to determine the maximum fibre contents. Parameters were the type and content of the steel fibres, the ratio of sand to total aggregate and the content of cement paste. The BML-viscometer was applied in order to study the effect of the type and content of the fibres on rheological characteristics of SCC. It turned out that self-compacting behaviour could be obtained at high steel fibre contents.
