Semi-durable flame retardants in textile finishing
PYROVATIM PBS is an aqueous, cationic solution, free of antimony, halogens and formaldehyde. The flame-retardant effect is achieved by using a phosphorus/nitrogen basis. The product is applied on a pad mangle with subsequent drying; curing is effected on a stenter or hotflue. A treatment time of 240 seconds at 160 deg C is generally recommended. PYROVATIM PBS was primarily developed for flame-retardant finishing of interliners as described in BS5852 part 2. They are flame-retardant barrier fabrics between filling material and outer fabric. Upholstery fabrics of cotton and blends containing up to 50% polyester, finished with PYROVATIM PBS, pass the match and cigarette test after soaking. A further, very important aspect is the flame retardancy combined with Ciba OLEOPHOBOL 7713 finishes. PYROVATIM PBS passed the vertical tests on curtains and coated blackouts and is fast not only to soaking but also to shampooning. For flame-retardant workwear, PYROVATIM PBS can be used in combination with fluoropolymers with high oil and water repellent effects.
