Reuse of cement kiln bypass dust in the manufacture of ordinary portland cement
The chemical composition of the cement kiln dust collected from the bypass opening of the calciner varies with the production lines. The concentration of the free lime in the fresh dust ranges between 40 and 60% with an average of 51.6%. The amount of chloride and sulfate attain values of 8.8 and 11.5% and the concentration of potassium exceeds that of sodium. A cement dust containing up to 8% chloride may replace 1% of the raw meal without varying its final composition and up to 5% of the clay used in the meal. Less than 1% of the sulfate-rich cement dust containing 11.5% SO3 should, however, replace the raw meal or the clay used. The replacement of limestone by a cement dust is not recommended because of the probable lowering of the lime content in the raw meal.
