A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
This paper presents the results from the modelling of chloride ingress in HPC. As part of the work of the EU research project CONLIFE, 22 concrete mixtures with water-binder ratios from 0.3 to 0.42 containing different amount of silica fume, fly ash and blast furnace slag were tested in the laboratory for their chloride diffusivity using the rapid migration test. The ClinConc model was used to model chloride ingress in these types of concrete. The chloride penetration profiles measured after one year and two years exposure under. Seawater at the field station at the west coast of Sweden were used for verification of the model. The results show that the chloride profiles modelled by the CIinConc are in general in fairly good agreement with those measured from the Swedish field station after one year and two years exposure. Based on the modelling, a simple equation has been proposed for calculating minimum cover thickness from the measured diffusivity by taking service life, threshold level and exposure environment into account.
