In diesem Beitrag wird über unbemannte fliegende Objekte (UAV = unmanned aerial vehicle) zur Unterstützung bei Feuerlöschaufgaben berichtet. Die hier betrachteten Objekte haben eine Spannweite von 10 Fuß bis 12 Fuß (etwa 3 m bis 3,6 m) bei einer Zuladung von 25 Pounds (10,8 kg). Das UAV kann auf einem Trailer transportiert werden und könnte mit Hilfe einer transportablen Konsole etwa in Koffergröße gesteuert werden. Es kann starten und landen, ohne Personen auf dem Boden zu gefährden.
The development of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) to support the fire-fighting effort is discussed. The class of UAV being considered for firefighting support duty has a wingspan of 10 to 12 feet and can carry payloads up to about 25 pounds. The UAv can be transported on a trailer and could be controlled from a portable console about the size of a suitcase. It is also stated that the UAV can be flown and landed safely without endangering people on the ground.
