Lightweight concrete with polymer aggregates of waste plastics
In this study the possibility to use waste plastics as lightweight aggregate in light weight concrete products and lightweight concrete as construction material was investigated. Also the technical limits of lightweight concrete with polymer aggregates should be tested. Therefore ordinary waste plastics available at the market were used, which were not at all optimized for the intended purpose. After grading into grain fractions usually used in concrete technology and additionally separating according to the grain shape, the polymer aggregates were finally lye treated for removal of impurity substances. The grading curves for concretes were combinations of mineral and polymer aggregates. The concrete samples manufactured with standard cements and the combined grading curves were tested to get some guideline data about the material. Furthermore another object of investigation is the recyclability of the polymer aggregates from polymer concretes and the repeated manufacturing of polymer concrete from the recycled aggregates. As a result of this study it may be stated, that suitable composed lightweight concrete with polymer aggregates is an interesting material at the concrete market because of its positive properties.
