Fiber-reinforced polymer-confined circular concrete columns: Investigation of size and slenderness effects
The fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) confinement of reinforced concrete columns has been shown to be a very effective technique for structural enhancement. This study focuses on various aspects of the effects of the size and slenderness of FRP-confined concrete columns. From the experimental and analytical results, we conclude that no significant variations occcur in measured compressive strengths when FRP-confined concrete cylinders and short FRP-confined concrete column specimens are used. However, the same cannot be said for very small (almost equal to 50 mm diameter) cylinders, where a size effect, wall effect, and higher standard deviation were observed. No slenderness effects were observed between the medium and large scale specimens.
