Estimating concrete strength with Impact Echo system using a Neuro-Fuzzy method
Non-destructive testing is essential in the inspection of alteration, repair, and new construction in concrete industry. In the present research, impact echo system is used to determine the properties of hardened concrete. In this method, the P-wave velocity in concrete, which mainly is a function of compressive strength, is measured. Then by using, a Neuro-Fuzzy system a relationship between concrete strength and P-wave velocity is found and normal strength concrete behavior is predicted. This model can be vastly used to estimate the strength of normal concrete instead of conventional NDT methods. An ANFIS method is used to estimate the compressive strength of concrete by using Impact echo method. The effects of density and velocity have been investigated in the trend of compressive strength. The rules obtained show that although the effect of velocity is more than density, for predicting more accurate in Low strength an estimation of density is required. In addition, it is suggested that the effect of Poisson's ratio should be investigated. In addition, it was shown that in IE the setup of the apparatus plays an important role.
