Research on a fire-monitoring system for mine belt conveyors
A new method of monitoring the belt idler and environmental overtemperature is presented in this paper. And an applied system is developed which can monitor, locate and predict the belt conveyor fire. The overtemperature sensor used in this system is made of shape memory alloy and simulation experiments show that they have good precision in converting the temperature and work sensitively. Hall Effect sensors can accurately monitor the belt speed and the roller revs. The whole computer-based real-time monitoring system is characterised by its simple structure, convenient installation, reliable performance and good adaptability. An 8098-type single chip computer was selected as the mainframe of this monitoring system, which has four A/D interfaces and four high-speed input interfaces. The methods and technologies of monitoring the belt conveyor fire presented in this paper have been applied to the steel-cord belt conveyor integrated protection system developed by the authors, and the system has been applied successfully at Xishan Coal Board, China.
