The sandwich structures like plates, panels and shells have many very interesting advantages. These advantages result in their wide practical application in different branches of human technical activity. A short overview of sandwich shell models is given. As an example, the stability problem of classical sandwich cylindrical shell is formulated and solved. Because sandwich structure may be treated as a quasi-optimal one, the multicriteria optimization procedure is presented with the help of Pareto concept of optimality. Optimization procedures increase benefits of sandwich structures. The results of numerical calculation confirm the superiority of sandwich shells in comparison with monolayer shells. A simplified model of a cylindrical sandwich shell based on reduced thickness of shell is presented. The trends of present and future sandwich technologies based on composite materials are discussed. The examples of applicability of composites to different technical equipments are provided.
