Coverage of growing requirements on favourably priced energy will be a decisive precondition for our future economical development. In a time of changed markets technical and economical aspects on energy supply are much more linked together than ever before. A development has started to trade with energy and emission eligibilities in a way that reminds of stock exchange. It can be foreseen that the fossil fuels lignite and coal will have an important stake in the future energy mix. Therefore considerations on innovations and cost saving potentials in power plant construction focus on this field. Furthermore civil construction work has a comparable high interest in fossil power plants. In particular in times of aspired enhancements of efficiency buildings, building components, building methods and materials have to be resurveyed. Also it is necessary to find out the certain buildings in a power plant assembly at which the relatively highest costs are caused. With the aim to built a cost saving power plant thatcan be safely operated innovations and cost saving potentials are presented. For this conducted constructions and general civil engineering improvements are used. Additionally the extensively adapted design-codes and their effect on power plant engineering are discussed. It can be shown that civil engineering has to be seen in context with system engineering and that opportunities for future developments are due to multidisciplinary andnetworked thinking.
