Fiber reinforced polymer jacketed concrete under uniaxial compression - Verification of simple design equations
The use of fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) composites for strengthening and/or rehabilitating concrete structures is gaining increasing popularity in the civil engineering community. One of the most attractive applications of FRP materials in infrastructure is their use as confining systems for concrete columns. In this work, simple design equations are proposed to estimate the response of FRP confined circular concrete columns. This paper focuses on two types of FRP materials: Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) and Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer (GFRP). The equations are verified by comparing with some experimental results and with the work of other researchers. The proposed analytical equations correlate well with the experimental results and in most cases yields better prediction than work proposed by other researchers.
