Multifunctional photovoltaic integrated roof
For carpentry it is state-of-the-art to construct roofs that consist of large surface composite components. Those roof components are manufactured in the factory with high precision and then transported to the construction site where they are mounted to complete roofs. Among others the minimised erection time is one of the advantages of this kind of roof construction. The element sizes are only restricted by the limitations of transport. In Germany alone, seven million m2 of roof surface per year are produced in this way, e. g. for supermarkets. The paper reports about a cooperative project that has been implemented by PV and carpentry experts to develop a multifunctional photovoltaic integrated wooden roof that is produced in the way described above. The roof elements are constructed in a way that the complete PV system including BOS (balance of system) components, inverter etc. are pre-fabricated and implemented into the elements. Figures show such roof elements, constructional details, and graphs of cost and time advantages related to this approach.
