Hydration monitoring of cementitious materials by using electrical resistivity measurement
A non-contacting resistivity measurement technique was used to investigate the electrical resistivity of concretes with a fixed aggregate volume ratio and varied Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag (GGBS) replacements. The resistivity development with time up to 72 hours revealed that the hydration process of concrete follows a pattern of dissolution, setting, initial hardening and hardening deceleration development; GGBS had little contribution to early age hydration development of concrete. According to the dominate factor, the hydration process of a concrete was divided into two different resistivity development periods: ion concentration control and porosity control stage. The pore solution resistivity and porosity during hydration had been investigated. They were used to describe resistivity development mechanism and explain the filler effects of GGBS at early age. A relative resistivity is proposed to plot the relationship with compressive strength development of concrete.
