Patch loading resistance of longitudinally stiffened plate girders
This paper studies the behaviour of longitudinally stiffened plate girders with a special emphasis on closed section stiffeners and large loading lengths, as existing design provisions do not give an appropriate prediction of the resistance for such cases. To contribute to a better understanding of the behaviour of patch loaded plate girders the differences in the stability phenomena of the individual subpanels and the stiffeners are outlined on the basis of numerical investigations. To account for these differences, a modification of the current design regulations is proposed, which allows an appropriate determination of the resistance of patch loaded plate girders under consideration of the stability phenomena of the individual subpanels and the longitudinal stiffener.
