Outstanding Chinese steel bridges under construction
Based on the rapid and sustained development of long-span bridge construction, three outstanding Chinese steel bridges among ten remarkable projects are being constructed and will be finished in the new thee years, have been generally presented. The first steel bridge presented is the Sutong Bridge, a cable-stayed bridge with the longest span of 1088 m, the tallest pylons of 300 m and the greatest cable length of 577 m. As the second outstanding bridge, the Caotianmen Bridge as a three-span, continuous tied arch bridge with a main truss-arch span of 552 m, a new world record span length of arch bridges. The last introduced bridge relates to a two-span continuous suspension bridge, Xihoumen Bridge, with an innovative twin-box-girder span of 1650 m, the longest span of box-girder suspension bridge in the world. All these bridges have faced or will face to various difficulties and challenges due to their characteristics of super-long spans, but shall be confidently completed by the year of 2008.
