Remote monitoring of corrosion potentials in reinforced concrete bridges
The installation of a remote corrosion monitoring system for reinforced concrete bridges is discussed. The system operates by sensing and transmitting wireless signals to radio modems in real time to facilitate repair of any damage caused by corrosion. This system allows safe installation of instrumentation devices on bridges, while protecting the integrity and aesthetics of the structures. It also provides a historical record of the in-service structures' behavior to help determine their remaining life and minimize unplanned maintenance. The remote, automated, continuous supervision system will prevent disasters from occurring, with saving time and money and eliminating the need for conducting frequent inspection. The bridge conservation system will minimize serious failures and help operators avoid closing a bridge to traffic because of unplanned maintenance.
