Mechanical behavior of the pastes of powdered fish scale magnesium-bearing-phosphoaluminate composite cement
Magnesium-bearing-phosphoaluminate cement (MPC) pastes have been strengthened by powdered fish scale by the dispersion-reinforced mechanism. The splitting strength of the cement hardened pastes enhances by 20% from 12.0 MPa to 15.0 MPa and the Vickers micro hardness (VH) enhances by 53% from 1.56 GPa to 2.40 GPa in the case of the optimum addition of 0.4 weight-% powdered fish scale that is mainly composed of phases of Ca10(PO4)3(CO3)3 (OH)2 and CaHPO4. FT-IR spectra imply the occurrence of the chemical combination of group P-O with others in MPC paste and the formation of chemical bonds at the interface between cement hydrates and powdered fish scale.
