Innovative bridge deck constructions with bonding techniques
Bonding techniques allow for new and innovative structures in steel and composite construction which have advantages regarding economics, strength and durability. Within the scope of a research project new bridge deck constructions incorporating bonding techniques are developed and realised. The research project is conducted in cooperation with AWOK-University of Kaiserslautern (coordinator) , ISF and BT - Braunschweig University, BTU-Cottbus University and RWTH Aachen University. The developed bridge decks are compound of two steel sheets connected by triangular, rectangular or other steel sheets glued to the upper and lower cover plate (sandwich construction). This type of structure allows for a high stiffness and a minimum installation height and material usage at the same time. Two mock-ups, one employing quadratic hollow sections for the core of the sandwich plate and one with a core built from triangular profiles, have already been realised. In the present paper this new bridge decks with bonding techniques are described and first testing results are presented.
