A utilizacao de escoria de alto forno bruta como camada drenante e de base para pavimentos alfalticos
The aim of this paper is to present the air-cooled slag use as drain layer and base layer for pavement in a 5,6 km of extension, located in Linhares-ES (Espirito Santo). The blast furnace slag used in this work is originated of a steel plant located in BR 101, state of Espirito Santo. After its production, metallic parts of the slag is taken out and the remained part, with diameter sizes ranging from 0 to 50 mm, is disposed in patios as residues. Its characterization as aggregates is presented in this study. The blast furnace slag was used in soft ground and the study shows viable as drain layer and as base layer of asphalt pavements because it does not present volumetric expansion and reaches stabilization and support capacity specified by the standards of the sector. Due to localization of the steel supplier of the slag, the total cost of the material and its transportation presented a reduction in relation to common aggregates found in the region where the road was executed.
