Recycling of waste ceramic tiles and cement kiln dust for blended cement production
In the present work was investigated the usage of WCT (waste ceramic tiles) and CKD (cement kiln dust) for blended cement production using recycling technology. The materials used were industrial wastes and considered as environmental pollutants. This is an attempt to reduce environmental and health impacts of these wastes and in addition to maximize cement profitability in building and construction fields. These wastes were used as a partial replacement (% by weight) for OPC (ordinary Portland cement). Five mixtures (M0, M1, M2, M3 and M4) were suggested for experimental work. The replacement percentage of waste ceramic tiles was 35 % by weight, while the replacement of the cement kiln dust for OPC was 5, 10 and 15 % by weight. During this study, tests of water of consistency, setting times, bulk density, compressive strength and free lime content of hardened cement as well as blended cement pastes were carried out and studied. From the environmental and tests results point of view, the mixture which consists of 5 % by-pass cement kiln dust incorporating 35 % waste ceramic tiles replacement for OPC is the most suitable mixture for blended Portland cement production. Also, it was confirmed that the WCT possess pozzolanic properties.
