Swelling-shrinking properties of cement and polymer based adhesives
Several types of adhesives are used for strengthening, these can be cement or epoxy based adhesives. The use of cement based adhesives is also advantageous from the point of view of fire and environmental protection. We compared the commonly used cement and polymer based adhesives, with newly developed cement based adhesives. Shrinkage-swelling tests, shrinking ring tests, compressive strength and pull-out tests with adhesives were carried out. Their use in near surface mounted reinforcement application was also investigated. Controlling the swelling-shrinkage behaviour could have key importance in bond strength behaviour of near surface mounted reinforcement. Higher bond strength development may be achieved in case of swelling adhesives due to the lateral confinement of the reinforcement.
