Detecting defects in patch repaired concrete by ultrasonic method
In Japan, the number of deteriorated concrete structures is increasing. In addition to this, concrete structures are also damaged by earthquakes. In order to repair of concrete structures, a variety of repair methods have been devised and carried out. It is important to evaluate repair condition and to detect defects due to fatigue and redeterioration after repair of concrete structures. It is widely recognized that evaluation of defects in repaired concrete is more difficult than in concrete before repair. Therefore, in order to investigate the condition of patch repaired concrete, an ultrasonic technique is applied to concrete specimens in laboratory experiments. As a result, it is clarified that good repair and poor repair containing defects between patch mortar and original concrete are distinguished by measuring amplitude of reflectance. In ultrasonic testing using two-sensor arrangement, it was confirmed that good repair and poor repair containing defects between patch mortar and original concrete are distinguished by measuring amplitude of reflectance In ultrasonic of testing using one-sensor arrangement, it was clarified that amplitude of reflection from defects is smaller than that of two-sensor arrangement, although boundary defects are distinguished from good repair as was found using a two-sensor arrangement.
