Modified SIBIE application to scanning impact-echo
The SIBIE (Stack Imaging of Spectral Amplitudes Based on Impact-Echo) procedure is an alternative method to interpret impact-echo data. It is an imaging technique applied to the impact-echo data in the frequency and spatial domain. The SIBIE procedure has been developed to improve the impact-echo data interpretation, utilizing the distance between impact and sensor to extract spatial information about the location of an acoustical reflector. Conventionally, SIBIE is applied to a single measurement data and the information obtained is only about where the impact test has been applied. In this study, SIBIE was applied to scanning impact-echo. The application of SIBIE in locating tendon ducts with grouting defects embedded in two concrete specimens is investigated. In order to visualize the whole cross-section of the member that is tested SIBIE was used in an elliptical integration mode. The tendon-ducts were successfully located, the SIBIE analysis acts as a noise reduction filter.
