Restrained ring tests with UHPC
Restrained ring tests were carried out with UHPC (ultra-high performance concrete) to examine cracking due to shrinkage. Strain and temperature in the rings were measured. Tensile stress, degree of restraint and creep were calculated on the basis of additionally tested free autogenous and drying shrinkage, modulus of elasticity and coefficient of thermal expansion. The evaluation included drying shrinkage, but focused on early age stresses due to autogenous shrinkage. Temperature changes in the rings, generally neglected, turned out to have a significant influence on early age stresses. No cracks were observed when specimens remained sealed or dried out at 65 % RH.
