Investigation of failure mode of single circular reinforced concrete columns
Many existing reinforced concrete structures were designed before the introduction of modern seismic code and are thus vulnerable to collapse in the event of an earthquake. The purpose of this study is to present a model to investigate and predict failure mode of reinforced concrete column before damage. To achieve this purpose, columns failures are defined based on PEER column database and the most important factors which are affecting the failure mode, are recognized. Then a proposed model is developed by combining these factors. Based on this model, it is possible to predict the failure mode of circular reinforced concrete columns before damage.
