Solidification of the sludge of metal plating industry by clinoptilolite
The sludge of treatment plant of wastewater of metal plating industry is generally considered as hazardous waste due to its toxic heavy metal content. Generally the solidification/stabilization techniques applied especially to inorganic sludges prior to landfilling give good results. The purpose of the research is to investigate the effectiveness of a low cost natural product clinoptilolite in the solidification/stabilization of the sludge of a metal plating company. The other aim of the research was to shorten the curing time of the solidified products. According to the results obtained, clinoptilolite was found as a successful solidification additive yielding products with high unconfined compressive strength and low leaching at different curing periods.
