The early-age volume change and cracking of concrete is a key to the deterioration and the end of service life of concrete structures. It is of great importance to control and monitoring the level of concrete thermal and mechanical characteristics at early age. The process of hydration reaction increases with time resulting in the development of the deformation and other properties of the concrete. Concrete structures are characterized by a complex interaction of internal drying, external drying and thermal effects. The basic characteristics of concrete materials and structures have rapid changes at early age. An available test method and measuring devices are developed in this paper. A variety of mechanical properties of concrete at early age such as components of strain, shrinkage stress, modulus of elasticity, and creep coefficient were determined by the test system. The risk of cracking can be estimated for modern concrete structures applying the test results, so that it will ensure the structures safety as well as improve the durability of concrete structures.
