Influence of shrinkage-reducing admixtures on autogenous shrinkage and other properties of hardened cement paste
This paper summarizes the results of investigations on the effects of shrinkage reducing admixtures on autogenous shrinkage, porosity and internal humidity of hardened cement paste using four different cements (two Portland cements, one Portlandlimestone cement and one blastfurnace cement) with water/cement ratios w/c = 0.25, w/c = 0.42 and w/c = 0.50. The shrinkage reducers that could be obtained commercially reduced the autogenous shrinkage at 182 days by up to about 45 %. The effect of two shrinkage reducers decreased with increasing storage time of the hardened cement paste samples. Individual active substances in some cases increased the shrinkage of the hardened cement paste. The shrinkage reduction is probably caused not only by the reduced surface tension of the pore solution but also by the refinement of the pore system and the increased internal humidity in the hardened cement paste.
