Development of eco earth-moist concrete
This paper addresses experiments on eco EMC (earth-moist concrete) based on the ideas of a new mix design concept. Derived from packing theories, a new and performance based concept for the mix design of EMC is introduced and discussed in detail. Within the new mix design concept, the grading line of Andreasen & Andersen (1930), modified by Funk & Dinger (1994), is used for the mix proportioning of concrete mixtures. The innovative part of this approach is to consider the grading of the entire mix as an optimization problem. The formulation and solution of the optimization problem will be explained and validated by experiments on EMC. Therefore, mixes consisting of a blend of slag cement and Portland cement, gravel (4 mm to 16 mm), granite (2 mm to 8 mm), three types of sand (0-1 mm, 0-2 mm and 0-4 mm) and a polycarboxylic ether type superplasticizer are designed using the new mix design concept and tested on lab sale.
