Plastic and dry shrinkages cracking of blended white cement concrete
The objective of the present research work is to determine experimentally the effect of partial substitution in concrete made of white Portland cement with pozzolanic admixtures such as, silica fume, SF, metakaolin, MK, or fly ash, FA, up to 20% by cement weight on the plastic shrinkage cracking and dry shrinkage. Also, plastic shrinkage cracking and dry shrinkage for concrete made of regular plain grey Portland cement were determined as a reference. The experimental results showed that, plain white Portland cement concrete showed less number of plastic cracks but higher average crack width compared to other concrete mixtures blended with SF, MK or FA. It has been found that, plain concrete with grey Portland cement matrix showed higher number of plastic cracks than plain white Portland cement matrix. Also the results indicated that, dry shrinkage of concrete blended with SF, MK was higher compared to that of plain white cement concrete. On the other hand, dry shrinkage of samples blended with FA was less compared to the reference. Finally, dry shrinkage behavior of plain white cement as well as grey cement matrix was comparable.
