Laser embossing of wood grain patterns on machined MDF (medium density fiberboard) and finishing with UV cured powder coatings create seamless and durable parts that achieve design specific objectives and meet all current and proposed environmental requirements. Laser embossing and UV cured powder finishing of MDF is to the furniture manufacturing industry, as downloading MP3 music files is to the music industry. The MP3 technology has made the CD, the medium that carries the music irrelevant and inefficient. Laser embossing eliminates the need for veneer and laminate materials; the medium that carries the pattern and that require matching in processing or large production runs to amortize gravure print drum development costs. UV cured powder coating is a combination of material science with electrostatic powder coating application processing that is demonstrably faster, more durable and has more design flexibility than any finishing material and finishing process.
