New hydrostatic-mechanical powersplit CVT-transmission for construction machines
Hydrodynamic powershift transmissions for construction machines have been continuously developed towards a high degree of optimization and especially fuel consumption which could be further reduced. Besides torque converter transmissions, hydrostatic transmissions will be used more and more in small and mid-size wheel loaders. Torque converter powershift transmissions have excellent torque control behaviors that help during the filling operation of the buckets and, if equipped with torque converter lock-up clutches, they have high efficiencies at the medium and upper driving speeds. Hydrostatic transmissions, on the other hand, have their efficiency advantages at lower driving speed and during the bucket filling process. Hydrostatic-mechanical powersplit transmissions are designed to combine the advantages of both systems. This leads to an optimum in fuel economy of a wheel loader transmission at all operating conditions and offers to maintain the superior driving behaviors of a torque converter driveline in terms of torque control at the same time. The new hydrostatic-mechanical powersplit transmission of ZF has been developed for the application of construction machines, where robustness and superior functions are key requirements.
