Polyacrylates as ecological binders for moulding sands
In this article various methods of cross-linking of acryl polymers which can be used in foundry practice have been discussed-especially: Ca(OH)2 + CO2, by microwave and UV radiation This article discusses also about the results of the studies made on the leaching rate of some harmful compounds from the waste sands with acrylic binder and on the emission of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) from moulds poured with molten metal. It is illustrated in many tables, where you find the values which follow that both the new sand with acrylic binder as well as the used one are characterized by lower values of the concentration of the investigated substances than the values of concentration determined for the sands with phenol-formaldehyde resin and urea-furfuryl resin. It can be observed that the lowest value of PAHs emissions has the CO, hardened sand with sodium silicate and the sand bonded with acrylic binder hardened with CO2. The test reclamation has been carried out, too, as the applicability of a given sand in foundry processes depends on quite a great extent of its reclamability also.
