A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
The need for improved concrete patch repairs for concrete suffering from steel reinforced corrosion had initiated the development of galvanic anodes in the late 1990's. Early trial installations are now nearly 14 years old and their continued monitoring has improved understanding of their long-term performance. Knowledge gained from these and the subsequent use of anodes for a more global corrosion control of larger regions of concrete structures has enabled the evolution of better performing systems. This paper describes the development of anodes with time focusing on specific monitored results which show successful behaviour by establishing highly passive behaviour of the steel reinforcement. It also highlights a range of surface applied or embeddable systems currently in use.
