A commercial sodium bicarbonate-containing extinguishing powder was added to pine wood dust, wheat flour, malt dust, corn starch and coal dust to decrease their explosion hazard. The experiments were carried out in 20 dm3 spherical vessel to determine the maximum inerting explosion pressure and maximum rate of the pressure rise versus amount of the added powder. The lowest inerting concentration of the powder was 1250 g/m3 for wheat flour, and the highest was 2850 kg/m3 for pine wood dust.
