Energetic and environmental analysis of a solar-house contribution to the sustainable development - greenhouse gases emission reduction
This study aims to determine the contribution of a house for the sustainable development in mitigating global warming by reducing greenhouse gases emission (GHG) from electricity generation process. It is taken as a reference an environmentally efficient solar-house, solar photovoltaic powered. This case study utilized a solar-house prototype named Ekó House Project. This paper uses the concept of energy generation in the Brazilian National Interconnected System regarding sources and associated GHG emissions, an inter-related assessment of energy use and GHG emissions for the residential sector and the setting of guidelines for a house aiming the sustainable development. Data obtained from the Ekó House prototype utilization are applied considering the replacement of a percentage of standard Brazilian homes by similar solar houses. The results show a total potential of avoiding up to 3550 Mton CO2 emissions. For each solar-house, the avoided emissions could reach up to 7.1 ton/a year of CO2, which means 355 ton in its lifetime. From an inter-related analysis of solar photovoltaic generation and energy efficiency assessments, our solarhouse taken as a reference has an important potential to reduce GHG emissions, contributing to Brazil's sustainable development and global warming mitigation.
