A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
The development of textile-based concrete materials requires a multidisciplinary approach, a team consisting of textile engineers, concrete material experts, civil engineers, chemists, physicists and materials scientists. If textiles in the form of fabric, yarn, micro or nanofibres are integrated with traditional building materials, the new materials would possess outstanding properties for the construction of super high-rise, long-span and intelligent civil infrastructure systems. Textile based cementitious composites can extend the life span of a concrete structure of any size, shape or project and add extra protection to the structure. With such composites money can be saved, structures will last far longer, and the concrete industry as a whole will be turning out a far more sustainable product, effectively reducing its CO2 contribution. Buildings will stand longer, roads and sidewalks will need less maintenance, as well as, a lower need to replace pre-existing roadways and walkways. Thus, paving the way for a sustainable development.
