Experimental Study on the Behavior of Geotextile Filters

In the paper the experimental results of a research carried out to evaluate the long term behavior of geotextile filters in contact with clayey soils are shown. In order to develop the study, physical and hydraulic characteristics of virgin geotextiles and the ones taken from site after a long period of working were determined in laboratory using different testing procedures. In particular, the mass per unit area, the nominal thickness, the pore size characteristic, the filtration opening size have been evaluated on two virgin geotextiles installed in 2007 and on the same geotextiles taken on the site in 2010. The experimental results showed that the clogging after three years since the installation is not significant.
