An investigation was made at pilot plant of CMRDI. of the effect of lime added in the place of limestone in El-Baharia iron ore sinter at a constant sinter baicity (CaO/SiO2) of 1.2. At a 20% replacement of CaO of limestone byx lime, the sintering productivity increased about 17%, but the productivity decreased with the 100% lime addition in place of limestone. The ready made sinter and strength of it was improved with each of both of the additions of lime instead of limestone. Moreover, mineralogical and X-ray investigations of the produced sinter were made to clarify the effect of using lime in place of limestone on it.
