A contribution to computational modelling of reinforced concrete structures subjected to impact loadings
The paper presents a computational modelling of reinforced concrete structures subjected to impact loadings. The results of a parametric study of two-dimensional dynamic calculations of reinforced concrete targets under impact loadings from both rigid and soft missiles are presented. Target dynamics was computed by an explicit two-dimensional finite element code using one-point quadrature elements. The behaviour of concrete was determined by means of a CAP constitutive model. For this model, an heuristic simple strain rate model in tensile domain was developed, implemented and tested. The results show that a good agreement between the theory and experiments can be generally achieved if, at least, the strain rate effects in tensile domain are taken into account and proper hourglass mode control is used. All important conclusions of the study are summarized and suggestions for future activities in this field are specified.
