Electrochromics for architectural glazing applications
Today modern glazing for architectural applications is available with quite different optical and thermal properties. Low e and solar control glazings with reflection colours from blue to bronze give architects a wide range of variety in order to meet their aesthetic intention and to fulfill technical and legislative needs as well. Glazings with changing optical and thermal properties summarized as 'Variable Transmission Windows' have been desired for many years. Among possible technical solutions electrochromism is one of the most promising principles to achieve an architectural glazing with changeable properties. This has been under development within the PILKINGTON Group for many years. Technical solutions are now available and will result in a production of electrochromic double glazings up to a size of 2 m2. The report will give an overview of the development route and the expected technical data.
