Use of long fiber textile structures as concrete reinforcement
Experiments were carried out on hollow box girders of concrete reinforced with textile fabrics of long glass fibers as well as unreinforced and short-fiber-reinforced girders. The beam reinforced with textile structures (ditch-bonded variable layer fabric and warp-knitted multi-axial layer fabric) showed much more ductile behavior with large deflections before failure. Textile structures combined with concrete or mortar are suitable for strengthening existing steel-reinforced structures. The advantages of this method are the easy application to existing structures as well as the ductile behavior of the strengthened structure.
