Curing influence on strength of polymer modified concrete based on recycled bricks
In this paper the mechanical properties such as compressive strength and bending strength of different polymer modified concrete samples were investigated. The contrary requirements for curing of the organic matrix (dry condition) and the inorganic matrix (mortar, wet condition) were described and the influence of the curing conditions on the strength was tested. Concrete mixtures were made using Portland cement, crushed bricks of different fractions (0/4, 4/8, 8/16 and 16/32 mm) and polymer-latex. The characteristics of the component materials (density, water absorption, compressive strength) were determined and the composition of test specimens was given. The concrete was cured by three different ways: (1) 1 day wet condition, 2 days water, 25 days in air; (2) 1 day wet condition, 6 days water, 21 days in air; (3) 1 day wet condition, 27 days in water. Subsequently the compressive strength of each specimen was measured after 1, 3, 7 and 28 days. The best results of compressive strength and bending strength was found by curing 1 day under wet condition , followed by 6 days in water and after that in air. Using 8 % admixture of polymer concerning cement content has no excuse because nominal compressive strength after 28 days is word in relation to concrete with 4 % admixture of polymer, and bending strength has approximately the same value.
