Fireproof concrete for lining of soak pits
Compositions and technology for fireproof unburnt units made from locally procurable materials (quartzite, silica fume and ferrochrom slag) have been developed. Concrete developed meets the requirements of specifications and technique guides (202 - 10 - 86 and 202 - 11 - 86) for use in the production of silica blocks for lining of heating facilities of iron and steel industries. It produced better performance and required less expenditure than dinas - quartzite concrete. Technology for producing technical grade liquid glass from silica fume by its direct solution in sodium hydroxide at 90 deg C to 950 deg C has been developed. The use of technical grade liquid glass as a binder increased the strength and resistance of concrete by 35 % to 45 % and 25 % to 30 %, respectively.
