SCADA system simplifies complex water treatment
The Denver Water Department currently is operating a 1.0 MGD (millions of gallons per day) resue demonstration plant designed to examine the feasibility of converting unchlorinated secondary treatment wastewater directly to high quality drinking water. A SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisiton) data base is being used to monitor 800 process points (550 digital signals, 250 analog signals). Water reclamation of this type is needed, for projections estimate a 15 to 20 year timeframe in which existing water supplies may become inadequate.
