Project Monitor - Review after 21 brochures
Project Monitor is a series of high quality brochures of recent passive solarbuildings in Europe. 50 schemes have been chosen including houses, apartments, schools, offices, factories and recreation buildings. Brochures are produced and distributed to architects, engineers and other interested parties throughout Europe, in batches of 7 at roughly three monthly intervals. The first brochures were distributed in october 1987 and the last will be sent in March 1989. Brochures include planning, constructional and solar design details, together with results from monitoring and an analysis of the success of the building in terms of aesthetics, energy use and user reactions. Information is provided by national sub-contractors and the broschures are compiled, edited and produced by the ECD Partnership in London. An analysis of the first 21 brochures shows that passive solar design has been successfully applied to the whole range of buildings and solar contributions as high as 90 % of the heating load have been recorded. Passive solar features incorporated include: building orientation north/south; location of principal rooms and the majority of glazing on the south side; sunspaces; Trombe walls and atria
