Customized networking for a programmable controller based telemetering application
A description is given of a citywide networking project using programmable controllers, which was developed from a small budget telemetering project called Modbus. The configuration and installation of the expanded system are described. The installation which monitors the city's water supply, illustrates an area in which programmable-controller-based systems are becoming very competitive with traditional black-box hardware in terms of both functional capability and capital costs.
