Remote control type excavating robot for deep foundation
Deep foundations have been used in the large capacity transmission lines which pass through mountainous areas with the depth of foundations reaching more than 20 m. In the past, the excavation work has been carried out manually. In view of the difficult job site conditions and the safety aspects of the excavation work, the techniques and job environment need to be improved. To meet these requirements, a small excavator system was developed with a view to achieve unmanned drilling operation. The excavator unit is remotely controlled, consisting of a manipulator attached to the small power shovel, a small crane and TV cameras with such a control system that all functions can be controlled from the ground control room. Function and performance tests carried out on the prototype showed satisfactory results and suggested that such a remote excavating operation system is practically feasible.
