Compact Ignition Tokamak test cell complex
The conceptual design of the building which will house the CIT (Compact Ignition Tokamak) at the Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory (PPPL) is discussed, with emphasis on the test cell complex. The functional and operational requirements of the CIT conventional facilities provided the basis for the conceptual design of the facilities. These were matched against the existing PPPL buildings and utilities in order to minimize the cost of facility modifications and of new buildings. Results of this review indicated that many parts of the TFTR complex could be utilized in support of the CIT project, but that a new CIT building would be required to house the CIT and many supporting systems. The CIT building areas discussed include the test cell area, test cell basement area, hot cell area, warm cell area, transfer areas, and the CIT installation transfer path.
